Henry Palmer Cullwick - Waipawa Memorial

Waiapu Church Gazette, Volume IX, Issue 15, 2 September 1918, Page 124

Keen to enlist and do his duty Henry Cullwick known as Harry clutched a letter from his father giving him consent to enlist as he departed for Sydney where he enlisted on 20 February 1916 aged only 18 years old.

On 3 March 1917 Harry was wounded in France receiving two shell wounds to the upper right thigh.  He was sent initially to England for treatment before being sent back to Australia.  He died 5 August 1918 in Caulfield General Hospital, Melbourne after a long struggle with his wounds.

In Harry's Australian military records there is correspondence showing how his family attempted to keep up with his progress.  http://naa12.naa.gov.au/scripts/Imagine.asp
