I inherited this from one of Roy's nephews - Roy McNabb who lived in Auckland.
My father was named after the 3 brothers killed during the war. His name was Vincent Cyril Roy McNabb; and now one of our sons has the name Vincent McNabb.
My wife and I went to Gallipoli in 2009 and visited the memorial where the names of Cyril and Roy are written. At another memorial site at Gallipoli is the name of my Grandfather from my mother's side - William Winter.
William Winter wrote a dairy whilst he was in Egypt and Gallipoli until the time he was killed.
William Winetr was stationed at a camp at a place named Helmieh on the outskirts of Cairo before the Gallipoli campaign. My mother was born then, and he sent a letter home saying "give the wee one the name Helmieh"; so her name was Helmieh. We now have a daughter with the same name.
Thank you for the work you are doing - Bruce McNabb.zero.0https://www.blogger.com/profile/16798816274823115132noreply@blogger.com
